Talk to me

Published by cattyann at 10:24 am under pets Edit This

I really don’t know what to do. I have written before about the hell we went through with our pet. Yes, she almost died, twice. From what? Bad dog food, I purchased and fed her. So, after exstensive pet bills, I started feeding her, rice and chicken with peas(she loves peas). She seems to be having a little upset stomach after a month of this.
I know I am not the only person who went through this. After being jacked over by two different vets, which were both from the same place, I don’t know where to turn. What do others feed their pet that may have gone through the pet food recall.
I don’t know if anyone is aware that there was a pet food recall from Mars in November, 2008. I don’t want to lose her, but I need help.
Please send me whatever recipes you have that works for your dog. Mine is an Austrailian Shepherd, 7 years old.
I would rather have people here help me with this, as I don’t trust vets. Thanks.

I was having problems with my beagle’s food also, although she had not eaten one any of the specific recalled brands, she was a regular consumer of the manufacturer’s non-recalled brands. Unfortunately, my dog got very sick too but we don’t know if it was cross contamination because the food she ate could have processed using the same machine as the contaminated ones.

Anyway, I decided to make my own dog food (like you), it worked for awhile, Tessie my beagle seemed fine but slowly we noticed she was gassy, and severe diarrhea. I changed vets because I was not happy with the one we using. I didn’t just change vet doctors, I went to a total different vet clinic. The vet there put Tessie on meds and a special diet of food that is only available from the vet. It was a little pricey but he said once she is better I can switch her to a commerical brand if I want to. Tessie improved drastically and I ended up keeping her a special ‘gastro’ formula that is easier to digest. I do mix the kibble with a bit of commerical kibble but the bulk of her food (kibble mixed with can) is the special stuff from the vet. I later learned that chicken (which I was giving her to help her was in fact full of lactaid which is like giving a dog a milk products.)

She has been on the special food for over a year and she is doing great. My advice to you is to find another vet clinic, obviously you are not satisfied with the one you are going to despite seeing a different doctor. It was the best thing I ever did for my dog - moving to another vet clinic.

Also, if you dog did get sick from the tainted food, are you putting a claim in for damages, I believe they are due in at the end of the month.

Thank you for your input. No, it was not determined what was wrong. So, I really couldn’t pinpoint the cause. I have contacted our local television channels to help with stopping the overcharging and lack of care the hospital is giving, or rather, not giving. I would love to hear from others. I too, gave my dog rice and chicken, for some time. She handled it well I thought. Then it started to upset her stomach, seriouse diaherra and gas problems. I really do thank your for your response. It has helped.
